The National Sports Commission (NSC) has suspended the ongoing electoral process of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and approved the appointment of the federation’s Deputy General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, as interim General Secretary.
The development followed the resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the federation’s Executive Committee on Thursday.
The NSC’s decision comes amid a major leadership shake-up within the country’s football governing body, with the commission seeking to ensure the continued administration of the NFF and stability within its secretariat during the transition period.
According to a statement published on the official NFF website on Thursday, Dr Ademola Olajire, the former Director of Media and Communications, has also been appointed as interim Deputy General Secretary.
Ikpeme will now oversee the day-to-day operations of the NFF secretariat in his capacity as interim General Secretary, while Olajire is expected to support the administration as interim Deputy General Secretary.
The suspension of the electoral process means that the planned leadership transition within the NFF will be put on hold pending further developments. The move comes at a critical period for Nigerian football, with the federation responsible for managing the country’s national teams and overseeing football administration at various levels.
Further details on the duration of the suspension and the next steps for the federation’s electoral process are expected to be announced by the relevant authorities.
