The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against engaging in partisan political activities during their service year, reaffirming that the scheme remains strictly apolitical.
He issued the warning while addressing 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, according to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations, Caroline Embu, in Abuja.
Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized that corps members must steer clear of political activities such as campaigns, rallies, or any form of association with political parties. According to him, involvement in politics during service violates the core principles of the NYSC scheme.
“Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don’t mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics,” he warned.
He also cautioned corps members on the responsible use of social media, advising them to avoid cyberstalking, cyberbullying, cyber fraud, and other online offences that could have legal consequences.
“If you are found guilty, you will face the consequences. Be careful about the way you use social media,” he added.
The NYSC DG reminded the corps members that their service year is an important phase of personal development and national integration, urging them to remain disciplined, manage their finances wisely, and cultivate a savings culture.
He further encouraged them to embrace opportunities under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, as well as explore legitimate investment options in the capital market to improve their financial stability.
