Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to protect lives and property following recent attacks in Benue State.
Obi made the call during visits to Otukpo-Nobi and Efeyi-Ugboju communities in Otukpo Local Government Area, where recent attacks reportedly left several people dead, injured or missing.
During the visit, Obi prayed at the mass burial site of victims and visited injured residents receiving treatment in hospital.
He said he was informed that more than 10 people were either killed or missing in Otukpo-Nobi, while several others sustained injuries. He also said over 13 people were reportedly killed in Efeyi-Ugboju, with others injured.
Obi further expressed concern over the reported abduction of 14 people along Ankpechi Road, urging the government to intensify security measures and address ungoverned spaces that have become breeding grounds for insecurity.
He stressed that the primary responsibility of government is to protect the lives and welfare of citizens, calling for stronger action to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
