Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted mass abduction by terrorists in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, which took place on August 16, 2026, led to the rescue of nine civilians, including an infant, after troops responded to a distress call about an attack along a local route.
According to preliminary intelligence, the terrorists were reportedly led by a suspected kingpin identified as Mallam Shuaibu. The attackers allegedly infiltrated the community and targeted civilians travelling through the area.
Authorities believe the attack may have been carried out as a reprisal following the recent arrest of suspected collaborators linked to the terrorist network. The suspects were reportedly intercepted while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) allegedly intended to support terrorist activities.
In an apparent attempt to retaliate and abduct civilians, the terrorists reportedly concealed themselves in a millet farm along the route and opened fire on passing vehicles, causing some drivers to lose control and veer off the road.
Troops swiftly responded to the distress call, engaging the attackers and preventing the planned mass abduction while rescuing the affected civilians.
The successful intervention highlights the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities, disrupt terrorist activities and prevent attacks across the North-West.
