The Osun State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord Party have exchanged allegations over fresh violence and arrests in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area, days after the August 15 governorship election.
The APC alleged that Accord supporters attacked its members, leaving at least 10 people critically injured and destroying properties, including the town’s major motor park and some business premises.
However, Accord rejected the allegations, accusing the police of arresting five of its members who, according to the party, were attempting to prevent alleged ballot-box snatching during the election.
The Accord State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, called for the immediate release of the detained members, describing their arrest as unfair.
Both parties have called for security intervention, while the allegations could not be independently verified.
The development has heightened political tensions in Iree following the governorship election.
