Voting has ended at several polling units across Osun State, with election officials moving into the sorting and counting of ballots as the governorship election enters its next phase.
The close of voting followed a day marked by strong voter turnout, technical challenges and reports of irregularitiesat some polling units, while security authorities described the overall situation as calm.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, cast his vote in Ede after experiencing delays linked to BVAS and a faulty ink pad. APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji also voted in Ikire and urged voters to remain peaceful.
Some voters reportedly faced difficulties with BVAS accreditation, including cases where the system failed to recognise fingerprints or facial features.
There were also allegations of vote-buying and other irregularities, while voting at the polling unit of ADC candidate Najeem Salaam in Ejigbo was briefly disrupted following reports of a suspected invasion by thugs.
Despite the reported incidents, the Commissioner of Police overseeing election security, Samuel Erale, said the situation remained calm at the time of his assessment.
With polls closing, attention has now shifted to the sorting, counting and announcement of results at polling units, ahead of the subsequent collation process.
