Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), becoming the second woman to lead the country’s foremost legal body.
Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious after polling 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the 26,106 valid ballots cast in the association’s presidential election.
The election was conducted electronically over a 24-hour period, beginning at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and concluding at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday.
She defeated her two challengers to secure the presidency, marking a historic milestone for the NBA and advancing female representation in the leadership of Nigeria’s legal profession.
Her election is expected to usher in a new chapter for the association as members look forward to her leadership and agenda for the legal profession.
