All the women and schoolchildren abducted by terrorists in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued following a coordinated operation by Nigerian security agencies.
The successful rescue was confirmed on Friday, with authorities stating that all the victims were recovered safely during the operation.
Providing an update via his official X account, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the operation also led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers.
According to Onanuga, some members of the criminal group were neutralised during the operation, while the arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.
He stressed that the rescue was carried out without conceding to any demands made by the abductors.
“In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised,” Onanuga stated.
He further revealed that one of the terrorist kingpins whose release had been demanded by the abductors remains in custody and is being prosecuted for his alleged crimes.
“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue, as one of the terrorists—a kingpin—whose release the kidnappers demanded, is being prosecuted for his atrocities,” he added.
Onanuga said security agencies would provide a detailed account of the operation in due course.
The rescue marks another significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle kidnapping and terrorism, with all the abducted victims safely reunited following the operation.
