The Oyo State Government has officially lifted the curfew previously imposed across 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
The curfew, which was initially set for 16 hours before being extended by an additional day, was introduced as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in the affected communities.
Announcing the development, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said residents are now free to resume their normal daily activities. He commended the affected communities for their patience, cooperation, and understanding throughout the period of the restriction.
Oyelade also assured residents that the government remains vigilant and is closely monitoring the security situation while intensifying efforts to bring the kidnapping incident to a successful resolution.
The affected local government areas include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
The abduction occurred when gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping 45 pupils and teachers. Reports also indicate that one of the abducted teachers, a Mathematics teacher, was later killed by the attackers.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace and ensuring the safety of residents across Oyo State.
