The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, following the reopening of the facility by the police.
The secretariat had been sealed in November after a leadership crisis triggered a violent clash between factions led by Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Mohammed, both laying claim to the party’s leadership.
The development comes after a Court of Appeal ruling in March nullified the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led leadership. The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction, reportedly backed by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, relied on the judgment to organise a separate convention in Abuja.
The NEC meeting is expected to be attended by key stakeholders aligned with the Mohammed-led faction, including Bukola Saraki and Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.
However, tensions remain high within the party. The Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) has accused the police of facilitating what it described as an unlawful takeover of the party’s secretariat by individuals it labelled as “APC apologists.”
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction alleged that the action undermined ongoing legal processes, noting that the Federal High Court ruling relied upon had already been appealed.
The party further criticised the role of security agencies, accusing them of partisanship and warning that such actions could affect the outcome of pending judicial decisions.
The latest developments underscore the deepening leadership crisis within the PDP as it struggles to resolve internal disputes ahead of future political contests.
