The Plateau State Government has ordered the temporary closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state as a precautionary measure against suspected diphtheria cases.
The directive takes effect from Monday, September 7, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. It applies to schools that have already resumed for the new academic term.
The government said suspected cases have been reported in Jos North, Wase, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas, prompting increased surveillance and response measures.
Parents, teachers and school proprietors have been urged to comply with the directive as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the suspected outbreak.
