The Osun State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in two separate operations linked to alleged violent crimes in Modakeke and an invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The arrests come ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
Four suspects were arrested in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area, over alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
Police said two firearms, including a locally manufactured cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action gun, were recovered during searches of the suspects’ residences and premises.
In a separate operation, the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six suspected members of an unlawful societyfollowing reports of an alleged armed invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, during which two students were reportedly injured.
The police said two of the suspects confessed during interrogation to belonging to the Aye confraternity, although investigations are ongoing to establish further details.
The command said all 10 suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations, adding that they will be prosecuted upon completion of the investigations.
