Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Osun State have arrested the Director of Operations of the Amotekun Corps, Joseph Olagunju, over the alleged possession of police uniforms, axes, cutlasses, and other weapons.
The arrest took place near the Old Garage area of Osogbo, where members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were protesting against their chairman, Nurudeen Alowonle, over allegations of involvement in election-related violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to reports, police officers intercepted Olagunju while he was driving an unmarked grey Toyota Sienna conveying other Amotekun personnel. Although he identified himself as the corps’ Director of Operations, officers reportedly questioned why he was wearing trousers belonging to the Nigeria Police Force.
Eyewitnesses said Olagunju was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the police uniform, prompting his arrest. Authorities also allegedly recovered axes, cutlasses, and other weapons from the vehicle.
The incident comes amid heightened security measures across Osun State as preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship election.
