The Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging the presence of bandits and suspected Fulani herdsmen in Nguzu Edda Community, Edda Local Government Area, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the command said the clarification followed a viral social media report alleging an invasion of the community by armed bandits and suspected herders.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, ordered an immediate verification exercise, leading to the deployment of tactical police units to the area.
The operatives conducted extensive search-and-combing operations across bushes and surrounding communities but found no evidence of bandits or suspected herdsmen operating in the area.
The police command urged residents and the general public to disregard the reports, describing them as attempts by mischief-makers to create fear and panic among the people.
CP Okafor reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that adequate security measures remain in place across the state.
She also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.
