The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 75 travellers, including men, women and children, who were abducted by armed men near Folwaya Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
The victims were travelling in commercial buses when gunmen reportedly intercepted them around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, and took them into a forest, where they were held in a cave.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the rescue followed credible information provided by the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
A police team was immediately deployed to the area. The arrival of the operatives reportedly forced the kidnappers to flee, leaving the victims behind.
All 75 travellers were rescued unharmed, while some items were recovered during the operation.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW members for providing timely information and praised the police team for its swift response.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, while cautioning against taking the law into their own hands.
