Political parties in Osun State have signed a peace accord, reaffirming their commitment to a peaceful, free, fair, and credible governorship election scheduled for August 15.
The peace accord was facilitated by the Osun Development Association during a Governance and Election Integrity Summit held in Osogbo, bringing together key stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, political parties, and civil society organisations.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Osun Development Association, Tunji Olugbodi, organisers said the initiative was designed to promote peace and reassure voters of a safe, secure, and conducive environment before, during, and after the election.
Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, stressed that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process is a shared responsibility, urging all stakeholders to prioritise peace, patriotism, and the state’s overall interest above political ambitions.
Delivering the keynote address, the guest speaker noted that democracy can only flourish in an atmosphere free from fear, violence, and intimidation, describing the 2026 Osun governorship election as a critical test of the South-West’s commitment to peaceful, development-driven democracy.
The summit concluded with representatives of participating political parties signing the peace accord, pledging to conduct peaceful campaigns and uphold the principles of free, fair, and credible elections.
