The Presidency has clarified that the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, voluntarily resigned from their positions and were not dismissed from the Federal Executive Council.
This clarification was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Edun submitted his resignation on health grounds before President Bola Tinubu announced a cabinet adjustment on Tuesday. Dangiwa also resigned voluntarily and expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.
The statement explained that Edun, who recently turned 70 and had been facing health challenges, tendered his resignation on his birthday, describing his service as a privilege under the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
It added that before his exit was formally announced, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where he held a private meeting before stepping away from public duties.
Following the resignations, Edun was directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of Finance, while Dangiwa was instructed to hand over to Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been nominated as his successor pending Senate confirmation.
The Presidency noted that both former ministers played key roles in the administration’s economic and housing reform agenda and were appreciated for their contributions.
It further stated that President Tinubu has charged the incoming Finance Minister with sustaining ongoing fiscal reforms and strengthening economic policy direction, while also continuing the government’s development agenda.
The administration is expected to formally forward the housing ministry nominee to the Senate for confirmation in due course.
