The Lekki–Epe corridor has officially transitioned into a Mass Transit and Regulated Transport Corridor under the Lagos State Government’s Bus Reform Initiative (BRI). According to the government, the move is strategic, data-driven, and aligned with its long-term goal of building a safer, more efficient, and economically sustainable transport system.
Authorities clarified that the restriction of unregulated Korope operations along the expressway is neither sudden nor targeted. They stated that:
- Multiple stakeholder engagements were held with transport unions and corridor operators
- Sensitisation campaigns and public advisories were issued ahead of enforcement
- Structured notifications were provided to ensure compliance
The government reaffirmed its commitment to:
- Structured mass transit operations
- Orderly and regulated transport systems
- Protection of lives and property
- Zero tolerance for actions that disrupt public peace
Operators have been urged to align with the regulatory framework and participate within the formal transport system as Lagos continues its transport reforms.
