The Fourth Section of the Court of Valencia has sentenced footballer Rafa Mir to eight and a half years in prison after finding him guilty of sexual assault and assault against a young woman.
Mir, a former Valencia CF forward and current Elche CF player, was convicted over incidents that reportedly occurred on the night of August 31, 2024, at his home in Bétera, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV).
The court ruling also convicted a second defendant, footballer Pablo Jara, sentencing him to two and a half years in prison along with a fine for sexual assault, crimes against moral integrity, and a minor assault charge involving another young woman.
The judgment, which is not yet final, also orders compensation payments of €64,000 to the main victim and €6,280 to the second complainant.
During the trial, Rafa Mir denied the allegations, insisting the encounter was consensual. However, the complainant testified that she experienced a violent sexual assault and described feeling fear and distress during the incident.
The Public Prosecutor had initially sought a 10.5-year sentence, but the court ultimately imposed an eight-and-a-half-year prison term.
