The Physiotherapy Department of Randle General Hospital, Surulere, has marked its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of dedicated rehabilitation services, professional development, research and training.
The anniversary, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, was themed “A Decade of Recovery Through Movement” and brought together past and present hospital leaders, physiotherapists, management staff and other stakeholders.
Established on February 1, 2016, following advocacy for physiotherapy services in the Surulere axis, the department has grown from a one-person unit to a team of six permanent physiotherapists, three interns and a NYSC member.
The pioneer Head of Department, Babatunde Adeolu, said patient patronage had increased significantly from 38 patients in the department’s first month to an average of 290 patients monthly in 2026, reflecting growing public confidence in its services.
The department has also become a centre for research and professional training, having supported the training of 31 physiotherapy students, 19 interns, eight NYSC members and 17 postgraduate research students since 2018.
In recognition of its capacity, the department received partial accreditation from the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN) in 2025 to train physiotherapy interns, with its first set of interns posted in June 2025.
The Medical Director/CEO of the hospital, Dr. Lateefat Omolara Agbaje, commended the department for its contributions to patient care and professional training, while former Medical Directors and Directors of Physiotherapy Services also shared goodwill messages.
A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of 10th anniversary awards to individuals recognised for their contributions to the department and the hospital.
The milestone reaffirmed the department’s commitment to patient-centred care, continuous professional development, research and training as it begins its next decade of service.
