The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeyemi Adeniyi, within 48 hours.
The order was issued on Monday by the House Committee investigating the operations of the alleged agency during a resumed hearing at the National Assembly.
Committee Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, said Adeyemi must appear before lawmakers by Wednesday to answer questions over allegations surrounding the organisation, including its reported ₦1.32 billion budget allocation and occupation of office space at the Federal Secretariat despite lacking legal backing.
Representing the IGP, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi confirmed that the police had already filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi over allegations of conspiracy and fraud, adding that investigations remain ongoing.
Police also revealed that petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President accused Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC.
According to investigators, Adeyemi allegedly used the claimed office to secure accommodation at the Federal Secretariat, sought approval to recruit about 300 personnel, attempted to obtain a $1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 budget, and planned to organise a World Investment Summit under the purported council.
During the hearing, police further confirmed that signatures on documents allegedly issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff did not match authentic official records, strengthening allegations of document forgery.
