The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has criticised the failure of some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to honour its summons, describing their absence as a setback to its ongoing investigation.
Speaking after Tuesday’s plenary, the committee’s Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, faulted the absence of key government officials, including the Minister of Finance, who was represented by an official. He insisted that invited officials must appear in person before the panel or face further legislative action.
As part of its investigation, the committee summoned the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to explain the operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council amid concerns over its legal status.
According to the committee, their appearance is necessary to clarify issues surrounding the establishment, activities, and legitimacy of the council, as lawmakers intensify efforts to ensure transparency and accountability.
The House panel reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and urged all relevant government officials and institutions to cooperate fully with the legislative process.
