Residents across parts of Ikorodu and Kosofe Local Government Areas have commended the Lagos State Government for its ongoing road and bridge infrastructure projects, describing the interventions as significant improvements to transportation and connectivity.
The commendation came during an inspection of ongoing projects by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Olutokunbo Oyenuga, and other technical officials.
During the inspection, the inbound section of the AFA Bridge on the Agric-Isawo Road was opened to traffic, providing relief to commuters along the axis. The government, however, said work would continue on the outbound section, while motorists were urged to comply with traffic management measures and exercise caution around the construction zone.
Community leaders in Ikorodu West LCDA expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that residents had endured significant difficulties due to the condition of the roads. They pledged their cooperation with government agencies and contractors to ensure the smooth completion and maintenance of the projects.
The inspection team also assessed the rehabilitation of Itowolo Bridge and reconstruction of Aruna U-Turn in Ikorodu, as well as the Maidan-Patele Link Bridge and Approach Roads in Mile 12, Kosofe. Residents said the projects would improve mobility, enhance safety and reduce the hardship previously experienced by commuters.
The Special Adviser urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting and properly using the facilities. He stressed that effective enforcement and a change in attitude were necessary to ensure that the projects, funded with taxpayers’ money, serve residents sustainably.
