The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is preparing a landmark initiative that would allow members of the Spanish women’s national team to freeze their eggs, giving players greater flexibility to balance their football careers with plans for motherhood.
The proposed measure is aimed at addressing a long-standing challenge faced by female footballers, many of whom have delayed starting families because of concerns that pregnancy and motherhood could affect their careers, competitive form or opportunities to represent Spain.
The initiative would form part of broader work-life balance measures already being promoted by the RFEF to improve conditions for women representing the national team.
If implemented, the policy could give Spanish players more freedom to plan their careers and personal lives without feeling compelled to choose between competing for La Roja and becoming mothers.
The move is being viewed as an important step towards creating a more supportive environment for women in professional sport, where career ambitions and family aspirations can coexist.
