Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned a newly constructed 120-room Ibis Hotel in Lekki Phase I, describing the investment as a demonstration of growing investor confidence in Lagos.
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the hotel’s opening reflects confidence in Lagos, Nigeria’s economy and the ability of local businesses to deliver facilities that meet international standards.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the Ibis brand has been part of Lagos’ hospitality sector since 2013, with its 165-room hotel on Allen Avenue, Ikeja. He said the decision to establish another facility in Lekki further underscores the area’s growing importance as a destination for business, investment and tourism.
According to him, Lekki has become one of the most vibrant areas of Lagos, driven by major developments including the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Free Trade Zone, corporate offices, technology companies and creative enterprises.
The Governor said the new hotel had already created more than 150 direct jobs, with additional opportunities expected for farmers, food suppliers, transport operators, laundry service providers and artisans involved in the hotel’s supply chain.
He said the investment aligns with the State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S.+ development agenda, which seeks to create an enabling environment for businesses and investors to thrive.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated the hotel’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Otunba Olufemi Okenla, and urged the management to maintain the standards associated with the Ibis brand while prioritising local suppliers and training young Lagosians.
Earlier, Okenla said the 120-room facility was built to international standards, featuring soundproof rooms and modern amenities designed to provide guests with comfort and quality service.
The hotel was dedicated by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre, who prayed for the success and prosperity of the business, its management, staff and guests.
The commissioning was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, traditional rulers, captains of industry, family members, friends and other distinguished guests.
The new facility adds to the growing hospitality infrastructure in the Lekki corridor and further strengthens Lagos’ position as a leading destination for business, tourism, investment and leisure.
