Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to occupants of illegal structures along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, warning that a major demolition exercise will begin once the deadline expires.
The directive followed the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which took place across Ojuelegba, Surulere, and Kosofe on Saturday.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that maintaining a cleaner Lagos requires collective responsibility, urging residents to support government efforts by disposing of waste properly and keeping their surroundings clean.
As part of measures to improve waste management, the governor announced the deployment of an additional 150 compactor trucks to boost refuse collection across the state. He also revealed that the government is finalising a comprehensive landfill management plan to improve efficiency for Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators.
The governor further appealed to residents to pay their waste disposal bills promptly and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, warning that environmental violations would no longer be tolerated.
Announcing the enforcement action, Sanwo-Olu declared that all illegal structures and unapproved activities along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor would be removed.
“From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go,” the governor stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring order and improving the city’s environment.
