Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said peace goes beyond treaties and security, stressing that access to jobs, healthcare, reliable public services and opportunities for a better future are also essential to building peaceful societies.
Speaking at the 8th ECAM Council High-Level Session in New York, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos’ experience shows that development and security are closely connected, particularly in a state with more than 20 million residents, most of whom are under 30.
He highlighted projects and reforms implemented under the THEMES agenda since 2019, including the Blue and Red Lines, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and reforms in healthcare, education, transportation, technology and other sectors.

The governor also called for partnerships that build with Africa, not for Africa, urging greater local value creation, stronger industries, job opportunities and increased participation of African professionals in shaping the continent’s future.
As he prepares to hand over the reins of Lagos next year, Sanwo-Olu said providing people with opportunities to build a future in their communities remains one of the strongest foundations for lasting peace.
