Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to see nation-building as a shared responsibility, urging citizens to contribute actively to the development of a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, made the call at a special Juma’at service held at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Governor stressed the importance of unity and cooperation across ethnic, religious and cultural lines, noting that Nigeria’s human and natural resources can be better harnessed when citizens work towards a common national purpose.
He also urged Nigerians to learn from the country’s history and sustain the spirit of cooperation demonstrated during national challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Yunuss Al-Imam, echoed the call, urging Nigerians to reject tribalism and religious intolerance while promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Imams, Dr. Sa’ed Ahmad, encouraged citizens to use the Independence anniversary for reflection, gratitude and prayer, while taking responsibility for their individual contributions to national development.
