Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) to intensify its efforts in advancing human capital development and transforming workplaces across the country.
Sanwo-Olu made the call on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the opening of the 58th CIPM International Conference and Exhibition, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The Governor was represented by the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro.
Speaking on the theme, “Repositioning for Value and Impact,” Sanwo-Olu described the conference as timely, noting that rapid advances in technology, artificial intelligence and changing employee expectations are reshaping the modern workplace.
He said the responsibilities of human resource professionals now extend beyond recruitment and employee welfare to areas such as organisational strategy, technology, leadership, workplace culture, data management and productivity. He added that the future of work would require both technical expertise and human qualities, including sound judgement, empathy and responsible decision-making.
The Governor urged CIPM to continue playing a strategic role in helping organisations respond to emerging workplace trends, including artificial intelligence, workforce mobility, leadership development and data-driven decision-making. He expressed confidence that the conference would produce practical ideas capable of creating better workplaces, stronger institutions and greater opportunities.
Sanwo-Olu also challenged participants to translate the quality of discussions at the conference into concrete actions and measurable impact.
