The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced a ₦50 million support package for families affected by the recent abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Akpabio made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary, saying the intervention is aimed at providing relief to families who lost loved ones during the tragic incident.
According to the Senate President, ₦10 million will be given to each of the five affected families, including the families of the three security personnel who died during the rescue operation and the two teachers who also lost their lives.
He said the financial support forms part of the Senate’s response to the attack, while reiterating the need for intensified efforts by security agencies to rescue other victims of kidnapping across the country.
Meanwhile, Senator Abdul Ningi, while raising a point of order during plenary, urged the Senate to ensure that compensation for victims of violent attacks is extended to all affected citizens.
He argued that support for victims should be holistic, inclusive and non-discriminatory, stressing that every Nigerian who suffers losses from such incidents deserves equal consideration.
The lawmakers also called for sustained collaboration among security agencies to tackle insecurity and prevent future attacks across the country.
