The Senate, through its Committee on Public Accounts, has issued a final deadline of April 29 for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to account for N210 trillion flagged in audit reports covering 2017 to 2023.
The committee directed the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, to appear alongside former GCEO Mele Kyari, as well as other key officials, including ex-Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajia and Dr Bala Wunti.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Osita Izunaso and seconded by Adams Oshiomhole.
Chairman of the committee, Aliyu Wadada, said the explanations provided so far by the company on the 19 audit queries were inadequate, stressing that Nigerians deserve full transparency.
He questioned the breakdown of N103 trillion reportedly listed as liabilities and demanded detailed clarification on its components, including legal and audit fees. He also called for explanations regarding N107 trillion said to have been spent on joint venture cash calls and funds allegedly owed by unnamed defunct banks.
Wadada warned that the company must provide comprehensive and verifiable responses, noting that the committee would no longer accept vague explanations.
Earlier, committee member Abdul Ningi raised concerns over repeated failures by NNPCL officials to honour legislative invitations, urging the Senate to enforce its powers to compel compliance.
The Senate maintained that the April 29 deadline is final, underscoring the seriousness of the probe and the need for accountability.
