Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has been elected the new Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), succeeding Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio.
The leadership transition was announced during the ECOWAS Authority meeting, where President Faye officially assumed the rotating chairmanship of the regional bloc.
In a related development, Biram Diop has been appointed President of the ECOWAS Commission, taking over from Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.
