Seven Killed, 14 Injured in Fatal Jigawa Road Crash

Seven people lost their lives while 14 others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Yakasawa village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The crash involved a Golf 3 wagon and a Sienna vehicle and happened at a busy time when residents and travellers were moving through the area. The impact left both vehicles severely damaged and triggered panic among bystanders.

Eyewitnesses described the incident as devastating. A resident of Yakasawa, Haruna Aliyu, said the scale of the accident was unlike anything previously witnessed in the area, expressing deep sadness over the loss of lives. Another witness, Isya Garba, who assisted in rescuing victims, appealed to motorists to exercise greater caution, stressing that careless driving puts lives at risk.

A third eyewitness, Ibrahim Hamisu, also lamented the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for them during the difficult time.

Confirming the incident, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the police received a distress call and immediately responded to the scene. He explained that survivors were rescued and taken to Ringim General Hospital for medical treatment.

According to the police, seven victims died at the scene, while 14 others are currently receiving care at the hospital. SP Adam added that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the accident.

He further urged road users to be mindful of safety regulations, emphasising that preventing road accidents requires collective responsibility and caution from all motorists.
