World number one Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon crown after battling past French Open champion Alexander Zverev in a gripping four-set final on Sunday.
The Italian recovered from losing the opening set to claim a 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3, 6-4 victory in a high-quality contest that lasted three hours and 46 minutes on Centre Court.
Sinner’s triumph earned him his fifth Grand Slam title and his first major championship since winning Wimbledon 12 months ago, further cementing his status as one of the sport’s dominant forces.
The 24-year-old delivered an outstanding performance, striking 58 winners while committing just 25 unforced errors to end Zverev’s 13-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments.
The victory also marked Sinner’s 100th career match win at Grand Slam events and moved him closer to the major title tally of rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner’s successful title defence comes after a difficult French Open campaign, where he suffered a surprise second-round defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo after squandering a two-set advantage.
At Wimbledon, however, the Italian recovered from a challenging first-round five-set victory over Miomir Kecmanovic before producing a dominant run to the championship.
The win improved Sinner’s impressive record for the season to 44 victories and just three defeats, while securing his sixth title of 2026.
For Zverev, the defeat ended a remarkable Wimbledon campaign in which he reached the final for the first time after previously failing to progress beyond the quarter-finals in nine appearances at the All England Club.
The German claimed the opening set in a tense tie-break but was unable to halt Sinner’s dominance, extending his losing streak against the Italian to 10 consecutive matches.
Despite the defeat, Zverev is set to climb to world number two in the ATP rankings, moving ahead of Carlos Alcaraz.
The final remained closely contested throughout, with both players relying heavily on powerful serving before Sinner seized control in the third set and secured the decisive break in the fourth.
Sinner sealed victory on his first championship point before dropping to the grass in celebration after another memorable Wimbledon triumph.
