The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the boat mishap in Yobe State that claimed the lives of 29 people and left several others injured.
In a condolence message issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker described the incident, which occurred late on Saturday in Garbi town, Nguru Local Government Area, as tragic and heartbreaking.
Hon. Abbas extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of Yobe State, over the devastating loss. He also called for stricter safety regulations to ensure the protection of Nigerians across all modes of transportation.
“This unfortunate incident has left us all in deep mourning, robbing families of their loved ones and communities of their vibrant members,” the Speaker said.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked for divine comfort for their families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and for strength for the survivors during the difficult period.
The Speaker further assured that the House of Representatives stands in solidarity with Yobe State and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and measures aimed at preventing such avoidable tragedies across the country.
