The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings but have slipped to fourth in Africa following the release of the updated rankings on Monday.
Nigeria’s global ranking remained unchanged after their most recent outing—a 2-1 international friendly defeat to Portugal in June. With no competitive matches since then, the result had minimal impact on the team’s overall standing.
However, the Super Eagles lost their place among Africa’s top three after Egypt climbed above them, following an impressive run to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Pharaohs were narrowly eliminated by eventual finalists Argentina.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, rising to sixth in the world. Senegal are Africa’s second-ranked side despite slipping three places globally, while Egypt now occupy third on the continent, pushing Nigeria down to fourth. Algeria complete Africa’s top five.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain reclaimed the No. 1 spot after defeating Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, with Argentina, France, England, and Brazil completing the world’s top five.
FIFA is expected to release its next men’s world rankings on October 7, 2026.
