The Taraba State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, has commenced the recruitment and training of 200 firefighters to strengthen emergency response and tackle recurring fire incidents across the state.
The initiative, approved by Governor Agbu Kefas, follows repeated fire disasters and includes the procurement of firefighting equipment for all 16 local government areas and the state’s airport.
Successful applicants selected from across the state will undergo five weeks of intensive training in Lagos before returning to operate the new firefighting equipment and staff fire service offices to be established across the councils.
Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Abdulkadir Haruna, said the programme is aimed at protecting lives, property and investments by improving the state’s capacity to respond to fire emergencies.
Project Manager of Nigerbird Engineering, Victor Fidi, noted that the initiative will establish fire service offices in local government areas that currently lack them, ensuring faster and more effective emergency response across Taraba State.
