In a statement signed by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Media and Publicity, it was clarified that the explosion resulted from a fire and not a bomb blast, contrary to widespread speculation and reports on social media.
Sarki noted that the clarification was provided by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who confirmed that preliminary findings and security agency reports showed the loud bang was caused by a fire outbreak in the hospital staff quarters, not by any explosive device.
The SSG added that the Kebbi State Government is collaborating closely with the Police and other security agencies, who have since brought the situation under full control.
He also reassured residents that no lives were lost, explaining that although a building was affected, all occupants had safely evacuated the premises before the explosion occurred.
He stressed that all security agencies, including the Police, the Military, and other relevant units, are actively handling the situation, with investigations ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire outbreak.
The Kebbi State Government also praised the prompt response of the Kebbi State Police Command and other security personnel for swiftly securing the area and safeguarding the public.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Meanwhile, Channels Television reported that a loud explosion was heard at the General Hospital in Bagudo in the early hours of Tuesday.
