President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the rescue of 21 Nigerians, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State last week.
In a statement, the President said the victims were rescued on Monday afternoon following a coordinated Search and Rescue operation involving personnel of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes. The 21 abductees, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area.
Tinubu said the rescued corps members and other victims were receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families. He added that security forces had continued the pursuit of the kidnappers who fled the area, directing the agencies to maintain pressure on criminal elements and ensure that those responsible, including their collaborators, face the full weight of the law.
The President commended the security and intelligence personnel involved in the rescue operation for their courage and dedication. He also expressed appreciation to the families of the abducted Nigerians for their patience and understanding, assuring parents and loved ones of NYSC members that his administration remained committed to protecting their lives and property and ensuring Nigerians can travel across the country without fear.
