President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of new appointments across key education agencies in Nigeria, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s education system.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the appointments are aimed at improving institutional performance under the Federal Ministry of Education.
For NECO, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board, while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi retains his position as Registrar of the examination body.
At the NBTE, Prof. Babatunde Salako has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board, while Prof. Idris Bugaje has already been reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term. He succeeds the pioneer rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Prior to his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Additionally, President Tinubu renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has overseen reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The Presidency noted that the appointees bring extensive experience in education and public service, expressing confidence that their leadership will enhance institutional efficiency and drive ongoing reforms, including the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
