President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase of between 30 and 80 per cent for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve the welfare and motivation of military officers and soldiers.
The new salary structure will benefit about 250,000 personnel across the Army, Navy and Air Force and is scheduled to take effect from September 1, 2026.
Under the approved package, senior officers from the rank of Brigadier-General to General will receive a 30 per centsalary increase. Officers from the rank of Colonel down to Warrant Officer will enjoy a 50 per cent increase, while personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 per cent salary increase.
The approval is expected to boost the morale of troops, particularly those engaged in ongoing operations across the country, while reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of members of the Armed Forces.
The salary review comes amid continued efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen national security through increased investment in the military, improved welfare packages and enhanced operational capacity.
