President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt. Honourable Andy Burnham, on his assumption of office, expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of relations between Nigeria and the UK.
The President also congratulated the government and people of the United Kingdom on what he described as a peaceful, orderly, and seamless leadership transition, noting that it reflects the resilience of the country’s democratic institutions and constitutional traditions.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, President Tinubu expressed optimism that Prime Minister Burnham would build on the longstanding partnership between both nations and consolidate the progress already made in bilateral cooperation.
The President also recalled his productive engagement with the immediate past British Prime Minister during his official visit to the United Kingdom in March 2026 and expressed hope that the new administration would build on the outcomes of that visit to deepen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations with the United Kingdom for the mutual benefit of both countries.
