President Bola Tinubu has called on residents and business owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfil their tax obligations and pay ground rents, stressing that government revenue is essential for sustaining infrastructure development and improving public services across Abuja.
The President made the appeal during the commissioning of the completed Arterial Road N5 linking Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in Abuja’s Dape District. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said compliance with statutory payments would provide the resources needed to deliver more critical infrastructure projects.
According to him, residents who benefit from ongoing development projects have a responsibility to support government efforts through the prompt payment of taxes, land charges, and ground rents.
Tinubu described the newly commissioned road as a testament to his administration’s commitment to completing projects and delivering on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He recalled pledging during the commissioning of an earlier phase of the project in 2025 that the road would be completed, emphasizing that his government remains focused on delivering projects from conception to completion.
The President noted that the road, awarded in October 2024 and completed within schedule, reflects a new approach to infrastructure delivery centred on efficiency, accountability, and results.
He explained that the project would significantly improve connectivity between Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora, and Idu communities while opening up easier access to the Idu Industrial District. According to him, the improved road network is expected to reduce logistics costs, attract investment, stimulate economic activities, and create employment opportunities.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for accelerating infrastructure development in the nation’s capital, praising the FCT Administration for translating government funding into visible and impactful projects.
Earlier, Wike highlighted the growing pace of infrastructure delivery in the FCT under the Tinubu administration. He disclosed that project commissioning activities have expanded steadily over the past three years, increasing from nine days during the administration’s first anniversary in 2024 to 31 days in its third year.
The minister further stated that infrastructure development is no longer concentrated in the city centre, noting that satellite towns and suburban communities are increasingly benefiting from government projects aimed at improving living standards and economic opportunities.
The commissioning of the Arterial Road N5 formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
