President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), assuring Nigerians of stronger economic performance and improved living conditions.
The NBS report showed that Nigeria’s GDP grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, up from 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. The growth was driven by improvements across agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and the services sector, which remained the largest contributor to the nation’s aggregate GDP.
In nominal terms, Nigeria’s GDP stood at N119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase from the N100.7 trillion recorded in the same period last year. Tinubu said the figures showed that the economic reforms introduced by his administration were beginning to yield results, citing stronger foreign reserves, improved credit ratings, rising oil and gas production and increased investor confidence.
The President said his administration would remain focused on translating economic growth into tangible improvements for households, particularly vulnerable Nigerians. He said measures were being planned to reduce transportation costs, increase food production and expand relief programmes, while stressing that the government would continue working to ensure that the gains recorded in the economy become sustainable and are ultimately reflected in the daily lives and pockets of Nigerians.
