Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully foiled an attack on Kukareta community in Borno State, killing 24 terrorists during a night-long gun battle.
Security sources said the attack occurred around midnight on Thursday and lasted until about 3:00 a.m., with soldiers engaging the assailants in a heavy exchange of fire before overpowering them and forcing the remaining fighters to flee.
After the encounter, troops recovered a large cache of abandoned weapons, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three GPMGs, two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three RPG tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm belted ammunition.
Two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries during the operation and are currently receiving medical attention.
The operation has been described as a significant success in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in Nigeria’s North-East, where the military continues its campaign against terrorist groups.
