Trump Calls Off Planned Strikes on Iran, Signals Imminent Diplomatic Agreement

United States President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of planned military strikes against Iran, citing significant progress in high-level diplomatic discussions with Tehran and signaling that a formal agreement could be reached soon.

In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, Trump said the decision followed discussions that had been elevated to the highest levels of the Iranian leadership and received broad approval from parties involved in the negotiations.

“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump stated.

The announcement marks a dramatic shift from earlier rhetoric, during which the US president had warned of possible military action against Iran and threatened measures targeting the country’s oil infrastructure.

Trump also indicated that negotiations had reached an advanced stage and suggested that the signing of an agreement could be announced shortly. However, he noted that a US naval blockade would remain in place until the proposed arrangement is formally finalized.

Despite the optimistic tone from Washington, reports indicate that Iranian officials have not yet publicly confirmed a final agreement, with some sources suggesting that discussions remain ongoing and that key decisions are still subject to approval by Iran’s leadership.

Earlier in the day, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that renewed military action could trigger wider regional instability, disrupt global energy markets, and prolong tensions in the Middle East.

The conflict, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year and was later paused under a ceasefire arrangement, has continued to impact global oil markets and international trade, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Financial markets reacted positively to the de-escalation. Oil prices declined following Trump’s announcement as investors anticipated a possible diplomatic breakthrough and reduced risk of a broader regional conflict.

While details of the proposed agreement remain unclear, international observers are closely monitoring developments as negotiations continue between Washington, Tehran, and regional stakeholders.
