United States President Donald Trump has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and strengthening Nigeria’s security.
In a letter dated July 6, 2026, Trump commended Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s security challenges, particularly the violence affecting Christian communities, and reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
The US president described the Nigeria–US relationship as vital to regional stability, noting that both countries share a common goal of confronting terrorism across West Africa.
Trump highlighted the 2026 US-Nigeria Defence Cooperation Roadmap, under which both nations established a Joint Working Group led by their National Security Advisers to enhance intelligence sharing, military training and joint security operations.
He also referenced the coordinated operation in the Lake Chad region that resulted in the elimination of ISIS leader Abubakar Al-Minoki and several of his associates, describing it as a major achievement in the bilateral security partnership.
Trump reiterated the United States’ commitment to working closely with Nigeria to strengthen security, protect citizens and deepen cooperation on regional peace and stability.
