Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, has stepped down from the Ogun State governorship race, endorsing Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election.
In a statement released in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Lemo said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders, describing the move as a strategic step in the overall interest of the party and Ogun State.
He noted that the endorsement aligns with efforts to strengthen party unity and build on the achievements of the current administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Lemo expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to advance Ogun’s development agenda and position the state as a leading hub for industry and innovation.
Calling for unity, he urged party members to set aside differences and rally behind the consensus candidate, warning that internal divisions have previously hindered progress.
He also directed his supporters across the state’s 20 local government areas to fully mobilise in support of Adeola, pledging to contribute his expertise in finance and public policy to ensure the party’s success.
Lemo’s announcement comes shortly after the Ogun APC formally adopted Adeola as its governorship candidate during a strategic caucus meeting led by the state party chairman, Yemi Sanusi.
