Two people have been killed in a shooting at a high school in the southern Philippines, with authorities confirming that the situation is now under control.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at a school attached to Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City. According to city officials, both victims were students, while one of them was identified as the suspected gunman who reportedly used a high-powered firearm.
University President Ernald Andal confirmed that there was no longer an active shooter and that no additional deaths or injuries had been reported.
The university said it was working with security authorities and would provide further updates as investigations continue, while stressing that the safety of students remains its top priority.
The incident comes nearly two months after another school shooting in the Philippines. In June, at least three students were killed and about 20 others injured when two students allegedly opened fire at a high school in Tacloban City.
The latest shooting also occurred less than 10 days after a deadly school shooting in Thailand, highlighting renewed concerns over school safety and gun violence in the region.
