The United Kingdom has increased its support for the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), bringing its total assistance to €78.7 million.
Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Dr Jean Kaseya, welcomed the additional funding, saying it would strengthen efforts to contain the outbreak affecting the DRC and Uganda.
Africa CDC disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday.
Kaseya said the latest commitment would support regional coordination, preparedness and response activities as African countries, health authorities and development partners step up efforts to prevent the disease from spreading across borders.
He commended the UK for recognising the importance of African leadership in the response and thanked Minister Kirsty McNeill and the UK Government for their continued solidarity and support.
“[Kaseya] said Africa CDC remains fully mobilised alongside the DRC, neighbouring countries and partners to stop the outbreak and protect affected communities from the devastating impact of Ebola,” the statement said.
Africa CDC said the additional resources would help reinforce ongoing response operations and support efforts to protect communities affected by the outbreak.
